Dave Ross at the Pinhook, Nov. 1 @ 8pm

L.A. Comedian and podcaster extraordinaire, Dave Ross at The Pinhook.

The inimitable Dave Ross is a comedian based in Los Angeles, CA. He plays Trademarq in Comedy Central’s Corporate. He tours all the time. Vans Warped Tour, Fest, SXSW, The Hollywood Improv, SF Sketchfest, The Bridgetown Comedy Festival and your basement are just a few of the places he’s done stand-up. He’s a Moth Grand Slam winner. He’s been on This is Not Happening, Drunk History, WTF with Marc Maron and so much more.

Dave’s standup is pure fun. He has been described as “loud” and “smart” and “dumb”. More than anything, though, he makes you feel welcome. He wants you to be his family for a night. Parental adivsory: he talks about cum a lot.

Upright Citizens Brigade (get a ticket deal through ComedyDurham!)

Hello my dears, this is the time you reap your benefits for following ComedyDurham.com and going to all the shows and whatnot.  The glorious Carolina Theatre of Durham is offering you a discount to the Upright Citizen’s Brigade show on October 5!

Now I know that I normally promote stand up, but improv is also near and dear to my heart.  When improv is done at a truly professional level it’s bust a gut funny.  The Upright Citizens Brigade has birthed some of the greatest names in comedy.

UCB alumni include:  Amy Poehler (founding member), Matt Walsh, Donald Glover, Kate Mckinnon, Aziz Ansari, Ellie Kemper, Zach Woods, Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson, Aubrey Plaza, Nick Kroll, and Ed Helms!

Needless to say the UCB Touring Company is not a thing to miss!

The ticket offer is for 25% off the standard ticket price when you use the code IMPROV. Tickets can be purchased online via Ticketmaster.com, carolinatheatre.org, or via the main box office.

See you there my fellow improv enthusiasts!

Friday 4/20: Minori Hinds + Brett Williams + Deb Aronin

April 20th Minori Hinds at the Monkey Bottom Collaborative.  $7 at the door. Show at 8PM, doors open at 7PM. (Poster here)

Find it (with a little luck) at 609 Trent Drive, Durham NC

This show features Brett Williams on her adorable ukulele and hosted by (me) Deb Aronin.  Minori is on her way up on the comedy fame scale.  Comedians make a point of seeing her perform and she’s been praised by the likes of Todd Barry and Janeane Garofalo (she’s opened for both of them).

The Monkey Bottom Collaborative is where the Beaver Queen after party takes place every year, and it’s a little off the beaten path. I’d be lying if I said it was super easy to find, but it is worth it.  There’s a sense that you need a password to get in, like a speakeasy (the password is “Fidelio”).  This is sort of like a little secret show.  I wouldn’t want to miss that, so you shouldn’t, either!

New shows, old shows, TV Shows

Hey kids,

Lots of news this month! Take a deep breath and get ready to read …

The Sunday Show: Caleb Synan

Caleb Synan returns to Durham! It’s been a year since Caleb has performed in the Bull City, and now he’s back on tour and stopping in again at 106 Main.
Caleb Synan’s breakout performance on CONAN was praised as “One of the Top 5 Late Night Debut’s of 2015” by TheLaughButton.com. Though his parents remain skeptical of his profession, he is a comedic force to be reckoned with – headlining clubs across the country and at home in LA! He continues to stay fake humble about his talents, even though his deceptively smart blend of Southern charm and razor sharp wit has earned him appearances on Last Comic Standing, Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival, and the title of “Wittiest” in Franklin County High School’s 2009 Yearbook. He did not write this bio himself, either. He swears.
But he did write and star in his own web-series for Comedy Central entitled “Deadliest Chef.” And in 2016 he performed stand up on Hulu’s Coming to the Stage, Fuse TV’s Uproarious, and on a tour for the US troops in South Korea and Japan! And he’ll have a margarita with you if you play your cards right!

Hosted by Deb Aronin, headlined by comedians from all over the country, The Sunday Show at 106 Main is the laid back professional comedy show you’ve been waiting for.

106 Main is a Durham favorite. Part cocktail bar, part dive bar, part indescribable, this place is ideal for grabbing a drink after work and airing your grievances to a compassionate bartender.

Tickets are $10
